Windows in Teplodar: How We Replaced Glass Blocks at Sonechko Kindergarten
Author: Illia Kaprishanskyi, VIKNODOM (ОКНОДОМ / ВІКНОДІМ). Site: Teplodar Preschool Educational Institution (nursery-kindergarten) No. 2 “Sonechko”, 19 Nezalezhnosti St., Teplodar, Odesa district, Ukraine.
The kindergarten in Teplodar needed new windows in its boiler room and kitchen, and it needed them fast. Both openings were filled with old green glass blocks: they let in very little light, can’t be opened, and get cold in winter. The staff found us on Google Maps and called. The next day our technician was on site taking measurements.
We made the windows from the 5-chamber Wintech 60 mm profile with a 32 mm triple-glazed energy-saving unit. Manufacturing and delivery took 7 working days. The kindergarten paid only after installation and after signing the acceptance certificate.
Below is how it went, step by step, what we installed and why. If you’re looking for windows in Teplodar, Maiaky, Biliaivka, Ovidiopol or Karolino-Buhaz, this will show you how we work and what to expect.
You can read the client’s review on Google Maps, with before-and-after photos.

What the kindergarten actually needed
The kindergarten didn’t want “windows in general”. It had three concrete jobs to get done, and we built the whole project around them:
- Get rid of the glass blocks before winter. The boiler room and the kitchen need heat and fresh air every day. Waiting until the cold set in wasn’t an option.
- Get paperwork the accountants would accept. The kindergarten is a non-profit institution funded by the Teplodar city council. A verbal quote or a handwritten estimate won’t do. They needed a contract, an estimate and all supporting documents prepared so the payment could actually go through.
- No prepayment. For a public institution the normal order is work first, sign-off second, money third.
Profile colour and hardware brand were secondary for this client. Timing, paperwork and payment terms came first. So we agreed on those before we even started on the specification.

The survey: what we found on site
Both windows are on the ground floor, in openings filled with glass blocks. We removed the glass blocks completely, across the full width of each opening.
| Room | Window size (W×H), mm | Opening type | Exterior sill | Window board |
| Boiler room | 1160×1430 | two-sash | metal, 100×1660 mm | new, Opentech, 350×1660 mm |
| Kitchen | 1210×1450 | fixed pane + tilt-and-turn sash | metal, 100×1630 mm | kept the tiled one, restored after removal |
In the kitchen, the inside sill was finished with tiles. Replacing it with plastic made no sense: tiles are easier to clean in a kitchen, and sanitary rules for catering areas favour them anyway. So we carefully took out the glass blocks and restored the old tiled sill after installation.
The kitchen window has one tilt-and-turn sash. For a kindergarten kitchen that’s a must: it gets hot in summer, and the room has to be aired without a draught, in micro-ventilation or tilt mode.
We record every survey on a form the client signs to confirm they agree with the sizes and specification and that measurements were taken in their presence. That way the numbers that go to the factory are numbers nobody disputes later.

Specification: why Wintech 60 mm and a 32 mm glazing unit
A publicly funded site needs balance: a warm window that will last, without paying extra for premium series. That’s why we chose the Wintech profile, a Turkish system we’ve worked with for a long time.
| Component | What we installed | Why |
| Profile | Wintech, 60 mm, 5 chambers, white | Warm profile for a ground floor, true geometry, easy care |
| Glazing unit | 32 mm, three panes, two chambers, energy-saving glass | Lower heat loss in the boiler room and kitchen, quieter inside |
| Hardware | mid-range, tilt-and-turn in the kitchen | Reliable opening without overpaying |
| Exterior sills | metal, Ranalla | Last for years on a façade, don’t crack in the sun |
| Window board | Opentech, white matte smooth | Matte finish doesn’t glare and hides scratches better |
Five chambers isn’t marketing talk. Each air chamber in the profile works like one more layer of insulation. Combined with a double-chamber unit and energy-saving glass, the window holds heat noticeably better than a single-chamber unit in the same frame. For a boiler room that heats half the building in winter, that’s a direct saving.
We recommend a white matte window board for institutions almost every time. Gloss looks nicer in a catalogue, but in a kindergarten things are constantly being moved across the sill, and gloss quickly gets covered in fine scratches.

Documents for a public institution
For the kindergarten, the paperwork mattered as much as the windows. We prepared the full set:
- supply and installation contract;
- itemised estimate;
- supporting documents for the products;
- acceptance certificate for the windows and the installation work.
Payment came only after the windows were installed and the certificate was signed. We operate as a registered sole proprietor (FOP), so paperwork for public and municipal institutions is straightforward.
In the review, the client specifically noted that there were no problems at all with the documents. For us, that’s the key result: paperwork is usually the hardest part for institutions.
Timeline: from the call to installation
- Day 1: the call. We answered right away and booked a visit.
- Day 2: our technician came to Teplodar, measured everything and priced it on site.
- Approval: estimate, contract, documents for the accountants.
- 7 working days: manufacturing and delivery.
- Installation: glass block removal, windows, exterior sills and window board fitted, reveals and the tiled sill restored.
- Sign-off and payment: after the work was accepted.

Wintech windows and doors under the eRecovery program
The same Wintech profile used at the kindergarten can be ordered under Ukraine’s state compensation program eRecovery (єВідновлення). That applies to both windows and uPVC doors: entrance doors, balcony doors, doors for a summer kitchen or outbuilding.
If your house or apartment was damaged by shelling and you have a compensation decision, we help you through the process without unnecessary trips:
- we come out, measure and record which windows and doors need replacing;
- we price the specification within your compensation amount;
- we manufacture and install;
- we prepare the documents the program requires.
Before ordering, check the current program terms in the Diia app, as the rules are updated from time to time. We’ll tell you what applies in your particular case.
Where else we work: Maiaky, Biliaivka, Karolino-Buhaz, Ovidiopol, Petrodolynske
Teplodar isn’t a one-off trip for us. We work the same way (quick survey, paperwork, installation) in all the towns and villages around Odesa, and we take eRecovery orders everywhere:
- order windows in Maiaky: private houses, summer kitchens, balcony doors;
- uPVC windows and doors in Biliaivka: houses and apartments;
- windows in Karolino-Buhaz: holiday homes and resorts where windows have to stand up to salt and wind;
- windows in Ovidiopol: apartments, private houses, institutions;
- windows in Petrodolynske and nearby villages, including Teplodar.
We arrange survey visits to these places by phone. If you have several sites in one area (say, a school and a kindergarten in the same community), it’s easier to price them in a single estimate.
Checklist: what to prepare before ordering windows
For an institution (kindergarten, school, clinic):
- which rooms, and how many windows/doors;
- the organisation’s details for the contract;
- which documents your accounts department or treasury requires;
- payment terms (after sign-off, in instalments, etc.).
For a private client:
- approximate sizes or photos of the openings;
- what matters most: warmth, noise insulation, price;
- whether you have an eRecovery decision;
- whether you need mosquito screens, exterior sills, window boards, reveals.
With this list, we can give you a price on the first visit.

FAQ
How long does window replacement in Teplodar take?
In this case, one day passed between the call and the survey, and manufacturing plus delivery took 7 working days. Installing two windows including glass block removal fits into one working day. The exact timeline depends on the number of windows and the factory’s workload; we’ll confirm it at the survey.
Can glass blocks be replaced with a regular window?
Yes. The glass blocks are removed completely, the opening is levelled, and a uPVC window with an opening sash is fitted. The room gets brighter, can be aired, and loses less heat.
Do you work with public institutions without prepayment?
Yes. For the Teplodar kindergarten we prepared the contract, estimate and supporting documents, and payment was made after installation and signing of the acceptance certificate. We agree terms with each institution before work starts.
Can Wintech windows be ordered under eRecovery?
Yes, Wintech windows and doors can be ordered under the eRecovery (єВідновлення) program. We work under it in Teplodar, Maiaky, Biliaivka, Karolino-Buhaz, Ovidiopol, Petrodolynske and Odesa.
What makes a 32 mm glazing unit better than a standard one?
It has three panes and two air chambers, with one pane of energy-saving glass. It’s warmer than a single-chamber unit and blocks more street noise. With a 5-chamber 60 mm profile, it’s the best balance of price and warmth.
Summary
Sonechko kindergarten didn’t just need windows. It needed a fast survey, proper paperwork and payment after the job was done. We delivered all of it: survey the next day, 7 working days to delivery, a full document package, payment on sign-off.
