Case study: window replacement after damage, Ruslan i Liudmyla, 12A Literaturna St

By Illia Borysovych Kaprishanskyi, manager at VIKNODIM (OKNODOM), who handled this order from the first call to the signed completion certificate. Published October 2, 2026.

The Ruslan i Liudmyla residential complex at 12A Literaturna Street, in Odesa’s Prymorskyi district, was damaged. In one of the top-floor apartments, the facade glazing that wraps around the corner of the room and faces the sea was destroyed. The owner boarded the openings up with OSB and called us in early September.

In this article I’ll walk you through how the window replacement after damage went in that apartment under the state eRecovery program (єВідновлення in Ukrainian): what we installed, what it cost according to our estimate, how many days it took and which documents we prepared. The profile is Aluplast Ideal 4000, eight units, 13.79 m², and it took one week from measurement to finished windows.

VIKNODIM restores windows under the eRecovery program in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson. We replace facade and bay glazing, repair and replace French balconies, and work with private apartments, condominium associations (OSBB) and businesses.

What the client actually needed

When someone calls after their home has been damaged, they rarely say “I need Aluplast windows with a triple-glazed unit”. At VIKNODIM we look at these orders through the Jobs to Be Done lens: first we figure out what problem the person is trying to solve, then we choose the windows that solve it.

For Valeriia, the job looked like this:

What she needed Why it mattered How we handled it
Seal the apartment before the cold and keep the sea view It was September, a draft was coming in from the sea, and the boarded-up room was dark Tall Aluplast Ideal 4000 windows with a warm triple-glazed unit and insulated bay joints
Pay for the work out of the compensation Paying out of pocket for 13 m² of glazing is a big hit, and a rejection by the commission means another month behind OSB An estimate and documents in the format eRecovery accepts, one manager for the whole order
Feel safe at home again Glass had already flown into the room once Anti-shatter film on every glazing unit
Avoid living on a building site for a week The family lives there and has nowhere to move their things Installation, turnkey reveals, sills and drip caps in a single visit

What usually holds people back

Almost every client on the program asks the same three things on the first call: will the estimate be accepted, will the company disappear after the prepayment, and will they really get a German profile. Many also consider just getting through the winter behind plywood and not dealing with anyone.

That’s why I go into detail below about documents, specifications and timing. For someone whose apartment has been damaged, these things matter more than the number of chambers in the profile.

Can damaged facade windows be repaired, or do they have to be replaced?

Facade glazing with bay connections is assembled from several window units into one continuous band. Where the facade turns, the units are joined at an angle with a bay connector profile, and from outside it looks like a solid wall of windows.

The weak spot in this kind of structure is the joints. A heavy impact on the facade shifts the units relative to each other, opens up the corner joints and pulls out the anchors. If even one unit moves, the whole band loses its geometry, and the corner starts letting in drafts and water.

Window replacement in an apartment after damage

When the frames are intact, we repair: we replace glazing units, adjust or replace hardware and reseal the joints. It’s cheaper, and the program covers that kind of repair too.

On Literaturna Street there was nothing left to repair. The old frames had been partly blown out, the rest were twisted, and the corner joints had come apart. We decided to replace the entire band.

Which windows we installed at Ruslan i Liudmyla

Parameter Solution
Profile Aluplast Ideal 4000, 5 chambers, 70 mm build depth, white, black gaskets
Reinforcement Closed 2 mm square section in the frame, 2 mm U-section in the sash
Hardware Siegenia Favorit
Glazing unit 4-10-4-10-4 with one low-E pane, triple-glazed, 32 mm
Units 8: 4 fixed and 4 tilt-and-turn, 845 and 960 mm wide, 1945 mm high
Unit connection Bay connector profiles where the facade turns
Add-on profiles 30 mm base profile, 35 mm aluminium extension
Drainage Concealed drainage in the frame
Drip caps 150 mm, white
Window sills SAUBERG, 400 mm, matte marble finish, with a rounded front nosing
Insect screens Framed screens on all 4 opening sashes
Reveals Turnkey interior reveals: insulated and vapour-sealed installation joint, finishing, sill junction
Area 13.79 m²

Here is why we chose this configuration, point by point.

The corner joints. A good profile won’t help if the corner is put together carelessly; that’s exactly where the draft will come from. We reinforce the connector, fill the joint cavity with insulation, seal it on the outside and add a vapour barrier on the inside. All units are levelled together as one structure, otherwise the sashes next to the corner start to catch over time.

Five chambers, 70 mm. That’s enough for the Odesa climate, and there was no point paying extra for an 85 mm system in this apartment. All Aluplast series with their specifications are listed on our Aluplast profile page.

Replacement of uPVC windows, Aluplast Ideal 4000

2 mm reinforcement. A sash almost two metres tall on a top floor by the sea is under constant wind load. With thin steel it would sag within a couple of seasons and start leaking air along the bottom rebate. Two-millimetre reinforcement and Siegenia Favorit hardware can carry that weight.

Triple glazing. The windows face the sea, and in winter that’s where the cold comes from. A 4-10-4-10-4 unit with low-E glass is warm without being too heavy for a tall sash.

Concealed drainage. In driving rain, water gets into the rebate and has to drain out onto the drip cap. Standard drainage slots on the facade are visible and clog with dust over time; concealed ones are more reliable at height.

Fixed and opening sashes alternate. On a high floor you can’t clean the windows from outside, so every fixed section sits next to a tilt-and-turn sash you can reach through from inside. Fixed sections are also cheaper and stiffer, which is a plus for a band with bay corners.

Sills, drip caps and screens in one order. The 400 mm SAUBERG sills fully cover the niche above the radiator. We fitted drip caps and insect screens at the same time, so the client didn’t have to look for another contractor later.

How much the window replacement after damage cost

Estimate dated 03.09.2026, 36% discount off the base price list. The amounts already include add-on profiles, reinforcement, drip caps, screens and sills.

# Unit Qty Amount, UAH
1 Fixed window 845 × 1945 mm 2 18,612.40
2 Tilt-and-turn 845 × 1945 mm, screen, sill 1 17,441.88
3 Tilt-and-turn 845 × 1945 mm, screen 1 15,109.74
4 Fixed window 960 × 1945 mm, sills 2 21,583.06
5 Tilt-and-turn 960 × 1945 mm, screens, sills 2 34,036.89
Order total, 13.79 m² 8 106,784

That works out to about UAH 7,740 per square metre including components. Profile prices change, so for your own opening you can get a rough figure from our window calculator; we prepare an exact estimate after measuring.

How the eRecovery window replacement went, step by step

  • Measurement. Our surveyor came to Literaturna Street, took the dimensions and the facade angles, and photographed the damage. Those photos then went into the document package.
  • Estimate and documents. I prepared the estimate, contract and specification in the format eRecovery accepts, and kept the client updated at every stage.
  • Manufacturing. We make our own windows, so we don’t depend on someone else’s factory queue.
  • Removal and installation. Our installers Mykola and Volodymyr took down the OSB and what was left of the old frames, assembled the eight units into bands with bay connectors and set them as one structure.
  • Turnkey reveals, sills and drip caps were done during the same visit; more on the reveals below.
  • Anti-shatter film on every glazing unit. If the glass breaks again, the fragments stay on the film.
  • The completion certificate closes the document package for the program.

Seven days passed from measurement to finished windows.

Turnkey finishing of window reveals

Once the damaged frames were removed, there was almost nothing left of the old reveals: the plaster had broken off and old foam was sticking out around the edges of the opening. If you install new windows and leave the reveals “for later”, the apartment stays a building site for another month, and the installation joint stays exposed and starts absorbing moisture.

Warm window installation and finishing of reveals

So we do the reveals straight away and turnkey, during the same visit as the installation:

  • remove the damaged finish and clean out the opening;
  • seal the installation joint on the inside with vapour barrier tape so the foam doesn’t get damp and lose its insulating value;
  • insulate the area where the frame meets the wall;
  • finish the reveals along the entire band, including the corners at the bay joints, where the geometry is the most complicated;
  • join the reveals to the sill and seal the junction.

The client gets a finished room: windows, sills and reveals with no gaps and nothing left for another crew to finish. The cost of the reveals goes into the same estimate submitted under eRecovery.

What the client said

Valeriia left a review on Google Maps. Here is an excerpt, translated from Ukrainian:

“The response was immediate: everything was measured quickly, and just 7 days later the windows were delivered and installed.”

You can read the full review and see photos of the apartment on Google Maps; other reviews are collected on our Clients about us page. As the manager, I was glad the review specifically mentioned the compensation paperwork, because that’s the stage where people most often get stuck.

What else VIKNODIM restores under eRecovery

Besides facade windows like the ones on Literaturna Street, under the program we repair and replace French balconies, panoramic glazing and building entrance groups. We take on:

  • repairs to surviving structures: glazing unit replacement, sashes, hardware, resealing of bay joints;
  • full replacement of facade glazing and French balconies with Aluplast, REHAU, VEKA and other profile systems;
  • turnkey reveals, sills, drip caps, anti-shatter film;
  • the estimate and the document package for compensation.

The general terms of the program are described on our eRecovery page. You can read another case on the same profile in the article “Windows blown out after shelling: a real eRecovery replacement story” (in Ukrainian), which also explains what to do if the compensation hasn’t arrived yet. If you can’t wait, there is an instalment plan. If it’s a French balcony that was damaged, it’s worth reading how this format works.

What to do if your windows are damaged

  1. Photograph the damage before any work starts: wide shots, close-ups and each corner joint separately.
  2. Cover the opening temporarily, but don’t throw away what’s left of the frames until the inspection.
  3. Apply for compensation through the Diia app or an administrative services centre (TsNAP) and wait for the commission’s decision.
  4. Call a surveyor; they’ll tell you whether a repair is enough or a replacement is needed.
  5. Check that the estimate lists the profile, the glazing unit formula, reinforcement, hardware and the type of unit connection. A line that just says “uPVC window” with no details is a red flag.
  6. Ask for anti-shatter film in the same order.
  7. Keep the contract, estimate and completion certificate; you’ll need them for the program.

Frequently asked questions

Can windows be replaced after damage under the eRecovery program? Yes. If the windows were damaged as a result of hostilities and this has been documented, the program covers both repair and full replacement, including facade windows with bay connections and French balconies. VIKNODIM prepares the estimate and documents to the program’s requirements and carries out the work in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson.

Where was this project? At the Ruslan i Liudmyla residential complex, 12A Literaturna Street, Prymorskyi district, Odesa. We replaced 8 Aluplast Ideal 4000 facade windows with a total area of 13.79 m² in a high-floor apartment with a sea view.

What is a bay window connection? It’s a connector profile that joins two window units at an angle where the facade turns. A properly assembled joint is reinforced, insulated inside and sealed outside. If it’s put together carelessly, the band of glazing starts letting in drafts and water right at the corner.

How much does it cost to replace facade windows with Aluplast Ideal 4000 in Odesa? This order came to UAH 106,784 for 8 units with a total area of 13.79 m², about UAH 7,740 per square metre including sills, drip caps and screens. The final price depends on the sizes, the number of opening sashes, the number of corners and the configuration; we give an exact figure after a free measurement.

Is finishing the reveals included in the window replacement? Yes. In this order the reveals were finished turnkey during the same visit as the installation: we insulated and vapour-sealed the installation joint, finished the reveals along the whole perimeter including the bay corners, and joined them to the sill. Under eRecovery, the reveals go into the overall estimate.

How long does window replacement after damage take? At 12A Literaturna Street, seven days passed from measurement to installed windows. The timing depends on the volume and complexity of the structure. We manufacture our own windows, so we’re not held up by another factory’s queue.

Summary

Valeriia needed to seal the apartment before winter, avoid spending her own money and stop worrying about glass above her bed. For that job we chose Aluplast Ideal 4000 with 2 mm reinforcement, a warm glazing unit, carefully assembled bay joints, turnkey reveals and anti-shatter film, and we handled the program paperwork ourselves.

If your facade windows, French balcony or panoramic glazing have been damaged, give us a call and book a surveyor visit; it’s free. We’ll check whether a repair is enough, prepare an estimate for eRecovery and take care of the whole job.
