Panoramic sliding balcony glazing in Odesa: a project on Akademichna Street

Apartment owners on Akademichna Street were not just looking for new windows for their balcony. They wanted to preserve a wide view, eliminate bulky swing sashes, and get a sliding panorama similar to the design from a video they saw on YouTube.

With this example, customers turned to several contractors, but did not get a ready-made solution. The problem was not the aluminum itself. The balcony is wide, located on the fourth floor, and sections with different structures had to be combined in a single line. Such a project cannot be calculated as one large standard window.

After taking measurements, the VIKNODIM technologist suggested dividing the glazing into six structures, pre-determining the position of all connections, and only then putting the order into production.

Short answer: Six aluminum structures, including classic and sliding sections, were installed on a balcony with a glazing area of about 12.5 m². Manufacturing took about three weeks, and installation and adjustment took two working days.

The Project in Figures

Location Odesa, Prymorskyi District, Akademichna Street
Floor 4th
Total Area about 12.5 m²
Quantity 6 separate structures
Configuration classic windows and sliding sections
Manufacturing about 3 weeks
Installation 2 working days
Warranty 5 years — according to the terms of the contract

Why There Was No Ready-Made Solution

The project combined regular window elements, a sliding section with two sashes, and a wider section with four sashes. Each part had its own dimensions, weight, and fixing points. If you order frames first and only decide how to connect them during installation, you can end up with mismatched levels and heavy sash movement.

Therefore, the work started not with choosing handles or profile color, but with a layout scheme. The technologist measured each part of the opening, checked the base, and marked the spots where individual frames were to be joined into a single line.

Why the Wide Panorama Was Divided into Parts

A structure of this width cannot be safely manufactured, delivered to the fourth floor, and installed as a single block. It was divided into six elements back at the design stage. This made it possible to transport the frames without unnecessary risk, level each section, and consistently assemble the glazing directly in the opening.

Special attention was paid to areas over three meters wide. The division points were chosen so that they ensured structural rigidity while not disrupting the overall panoramic view.

Why Sliding Aluminum Was Chosen

It was important for the customers not to lose usable space on the balcony. Sliding sashes move along guides and do not open inward, so you can leave furniture near the glazing or set up a small relaxation area.

Another reason is visual lightness. Narrow aluminum elements obstruct the view less. At the same time, the owners were informed in advance about the purpose of the solution: cold aluminum glazing protects against wind, rain, and dust, but by itself does not turn the balcony into a heated living room.

Measurement and Project Preparation

The geometry of the opening, height differences, base condition, and future fixing points were checked on-site. The width of the moving sashes and their direction of movement were determined separately. This is crucial for a sliding system: if acceptable dimensions are violated or guides are installed with a skew, the sash will move with more difficulty.

After approving the scheme, the customers received an estimate for all six structures. They were offered a three-month installment plan to pay for the project.

Manufacturing and Installation

The production of the custom set took about three weeks. Before delivery, frame dimensions, completeness, and the operation of moving elements were checked.

Installation was completed in two working days. First, the old glazing was dismantled and the opening was prepared. Then the outer frames were set — they established the common line for the remaining sections. After that, the installers consistently mounted all elements, connected them, fixed them in the opening, and sealed the installation joints.

Finally, sashes were installed and roller mechanisms were adjusted. They checked not only the opening, but also the parallelism of the guides, sealing contact, and equally smooth sash movement along the entire length.

What the Customers Received

The balcony retained its natural light and open view while becoming protected from precipitation, wind, and city dust. Sliding sashes do not take up space when opened, and six separate frames visually merge into a single panoramic line.

Before work handover, the customers checked each moving section and inspected the connections. A five-year warranty was provided for the structures and work performed in accordance with the contract terms.

What to Check Before Ordering Panoramic Glazing

Internet photos help explain the concept, but they do not replace measurements. For each balcony, the following are checked separately:

  • opening geometry and base condition;
  • floor, lifting method, and permissible dimensions of individual frames;
  • wind load and fastening reliability;
  • width, weight, and movement direction of the sashes;
  • filling type compatible with the chosen system;
  • purpose of the balcony in winter: cold protection or a warm room.

For a preliminary estimate, you can send photos of the balcony and approximate dimensions to a VIKNODIM specialist. The final configuration, timeline, and cost are determined after professional measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a section wider than three meters be manufactured as a single block?

Usually, wide glazing is divided into several elements. This makes the structure safer to manufacture, transport, lift to the floor, and precisely install. The final decision is made after measurement.

How does sliding glazing differ from swing glazing?

Sliding sashes move along the frame and do not require free space inside the balcony. Swing sashes open inward and have a different pressing mechanism.

How long did manufacturing and installation take?

For this project, manufacturing six custom structures took about three weeks, and installation and adjustment took two working days.

Is cold aluminum suitable for a living room?

A cold aluminum system primarily protects against wind, precipitation, and dust. Combining a balcony with a heated room requires a separate thermal engineering calculation and a warm system.

What warranty was provided for the project?

A five-year warranty was provided for the structures and work performed according to the contract terms.
