Arched Windows for Commercial Buildings: How We Solved an “Impossible” Task for RECOMED Clinic

When the management of the private clinic RECOMED (91 Dacha Kovalevsky St., Odesa) turned to us, they already had several failed attempts to find a contractor behind them. The aluminum facade of the building had been designed at the time without considering one important detail — the windows in it did not open.

In practice, this meant stuffiness in the offices facing the facade: in summer it was difficult for both staff and patients to stay there. The task seemed simple — to install openable windows. But it turned out to be more complicated than it first appeared.

Seven companies before us refused the project. The reason was that the customer needed three things at once:

• non-standard arched shape of the window structures;
• external lamination in anthracite color;
• installation into the existing aluminum facade system without dismantling the entire facade.

Such orders are usually not taken into work — too many variables and too easy to make a mistake. We took it on.

Why an arch is not just “beautiful,” but an engineering challenge

Arched structures are one of the most labor-intensive types of window systems. Unlike a standard rectangular window, almost every element here must be calculated individually:

That is why most manufacturers limit themselves to catalog solutions — tinkering with an individual arch is unprofitable. We work differently.

How we did it

Two OKNODOM technologists immediately left for the site — not to “sell a window,” but to understand which engineering solution would suit this specific facade. They studied the design, measured the arch radii, and evaluated the load-bearing elements. Based on the site visit, a solution was developed that took into account all the constraints of the project — the aluminum facade, color requirements, and the shape of the openings.

Next was production. Despite the completely non-standard order, it took about three weeks: it helped that we have our own production facility and direct contacts with profile and hardware suppliers, rather than working through intermediaries.

Installation was carried out directly into the existing aluminum facade system using a cherry picker — without dismantling the facade and without damaging the interior finish.

Separately, mosquito nets were manufactured and installed with the exact same individual radius as the windows. This is not adapting a standard net to size, but full-scale individual production — otherwise, the shape of the arch simply would not align.

The result

Almost a year has passed since the installation, and the structures are operating flawlessly. Clinic offices can now be ventilated without turning them into a steam room in the heat, and without battling insects — thanks to nets matching the exact shape of the windows.
