REHAU Synego MD in Arcadia: how we replaced blast-damaged windows in two stages

In short
- The site: an apartment in a Kadorr Group building on Valeriia Samofalova Street (formerly Kamanina Street), Arcadia, Odesa. A strike blew out the glass units and cracked the frame in several places.
- We measured on the day of the strike. The client had a quote the next day.
- The repair ran in two stages. First, new glass units to close up the apartment. Then the damaged frame was replaced together with the window sill.

The apartment is high up and the windows face the sea. The blast knocked some panes out completely; others stayed in place but cracked. The openings had to be boarded up with OSB. At that point an owner wants three simple things: get the apartment closed before the cold and rain, not wait weeks for a quote, and not pay out of pocket for what the state is supposed to cover. Here is how we handled it on this job and why we chose REHAU profile.
What happened and what we found at the survey
The blast damaged not only the glass but the profile too: the frame cracked in several places. That matters. If the frame is intact, you replace the glass unit and the window works again. If the profile is cracked or warped, a new glass unit in the old frame will not seal: the sash will not close tightly, you get draughts, and condensation in winter.
We came out on the day of the strike, measured every opening, photographed the damage for the report and checked each frame. The quote went out the next day. The client later wrote in his review that another company took two weeks to price the same job for his neighbours.
Speed matters here. OSB keeps the wind out, but the room is dark and broken glass is still sitting in the frame behind the board. Every day of waiting means living in discomfort and risking water getting into the reveals.
Why the repair ran in two stages
Glass units are made faster than frames, so we closed the apartment with glass first and replaced the frame once it was made.
Stage one: new glass units in the frames the blast had not damaged. Light and warmth came back and the OSB came down.
Stage two: when the new REHAU Synego MD units arrived, we removed the damaged frame and replaced it together with the window sill. The sill was replaced because the old one almost always gets damaged when a frame comes out, and there is no point fitting a new frame onto a damaged base.
This order works in the client’s favour. The apartment does not sit boarded up for the whole time the profile is being made, and nothing that survived intact was replaced.

The order includes two tall 2030 mm units with a fixed upper section and an opening sash below, three fixed panes and a separate tilt-and-turn sash. We replaced only what the blast had damaged.
Why REHAU Synego MD and not a simpler profile
For a high-floor apartment by the sea, wind, noise and heat loss are what matter, and Synego MD has headroom on all three.
First, the 80 mm build depth. It is deeper than the standard 70 mm, so it holds heat better. REHAU gives a frame Uf value down to 0.94 W/(m²·K) for the Synego system.
Second, the centre seal. MD stands for Mitteldichtung, a third gasket line in the middle of the profile. It keeps wind and moisture away from the hardware. High up, where the sea wind is stronger, you notice it straight away: less whistling and no draught at the sash.
Third, glass up to 51 mm and sound insulation up to 47 dB according to the manufacturer. We used 42 mm, but the headroom means a warmer or acoustic glass unit can go into the same frame later.
Fourth, the glass. The 6 mm solar control pane outside cuts summer heat gain when the sun is over the sea. The low-E pane inside keeps heat in the room in winter. Argon in both cavities reduces heat loss.

Paperwork for eVidnovlennia
If the home meets the programme’s conditions, the state covers the cost of replacing damaged windows, and we prepare the documents.
For this order we prepared the full set: a damage report with photos, the specification, the invoice and the certificate of completed work. The owner did not have to figure out which documents were needed or in what form.
What an owner should do right after a strike:
- ✅ photograph the damage inside and outside before anything is cleared;
- ✅ file a damaged property report in the Diia app;
- ✅ call a technician to record the opening sizes and the condition of the frames;
- ✅ cover the openings with film or OSB to protect the reveals and floor.

Result and client review
The OSB is gone. In its place are new REHAU windows and the sea view. New sill, intact reveals.

Lead times and what drives the price
Standard glass units take 14–15 working days. Laminated REHAU Synego units take longer because the foil is applied to the profile before the window is made. We give the exact lead time with the quote.
The price depends on the number and size of units, the glass specification, lamination, and whether the sill is replaced. If the windows were damaged by shelling and the home meets the programme’s conditions, eVidnovlennia covers the cost.

FAQ
Can I replace just the glass if the frame is cracked? No. A glass unit in a cracked frame will not seal. The frame is replaced, and a new glass unit can be moved into the new frame.
Why is blast damage repaired in two stages? Glass units are made faster than frames. Glass goes in first so the apartment has light and warmth, then the frame is replaced.
